Siva

The current first choice at the top of our Schwarz Star diamond formation, Siva, is the player of the quarter, for April to June 2008.

Our big striker amassed 5 goals during a ‘6-match-unbeaten-challenge’. This tally can be placed into even better perspective when he’d scored half of the team’s goals in this challenge.

While his adaptability and versatility, as compared to the previous 2 POTQ, would be questioned by some quarters, the old adage of ‘being the best at what you do’ rings loud and sharp in Siva’s football.

Catching up with Siva’s goal tally would need quite a big effort. This we have to recognize and to acknowledge.

Siva’s goals are usually not poached nor goals of opportunity, meaning he usually works hard for his goals. With the benefit of video to review the goal against hi-soft, he had to beat defenders and to have the awareness of placing the ball into the net. Unlike some well-known strikers who made their name in the world by poaching goals in the 6-yard box or up their tallies with dead balls, Siva is not the team’s dead-ball priority nor is he designated to the penalty spot.

Siva has also improved his chances to goal ratio since the turn of the year. Also his all round contribution in the lone role up front has to be credited for the victories that had come our way. Making play predictable for the team, holding up play, giving options, bringing other players into the game, are attributes which other players might not even have realized had infact made them look better.

Simply put, Siva doesn’t blast the ball over the bar, run himself ragged to the ground, or made to look like a monkey chasing after the ball by the opponents. Until another player is able to shoulder the role and responsibility, Siva remains the team’s top diamond.

Awards, like starting 11 will always be questioned, but I don’t think anyone can deny our big fellow, his moment of recognition for the past few months. Infact just his goals contribution is sufficient reason.

On the 14/6/08 started the inaugural start of the 1st ever Schwarz Star F.C Challenge Cup led by 2 managers Yun/ Leonie whom handpicked their players. Preparations got underway 2 months before the start and Schwarz Star F.C had the priviledge of Macdonald’s sponsoring the team on both legs of the tournament for its supply of drinks.

As it seemed Leonie’s Team( New Player United) consisted of many new players with afew of the senior players such as Kevin, Gerald,Dennis whereas Team Gusto led by Yun consisted of many of the players from the initial 1st team such as Azam,Taufiq, Siva, Farhan..

The match got off to a flying start and Leon from New Players United( NPU) nearly got the lead but Leon hit his shot against the bottom post. From then..Syafiq..got a penalty when Dennis handled the ball in the box..penalty was converted and 1-0. The 2nd goal was a screamer from Taufiq and the 3rd goal was when Yen capitalised on a defensive error and shot the ball to give Team Gusto a 3-0 lead for the 1st 3rd..

The 2nd 3rd however..Newplayers United came out firing and got a goal from Isa but their joy was shortlived when WhyeMing throw the ball directly towards Helmi and Helmi relayed a pass for Siva to thunder the shot in. In the final minutes of the 2nd 3rd..Yangsheng capitalised on an error from Team Gusto to round the GK and give Newplayers United a 2-1 lead.

In the final 3rd ..both teams canceleld each other out..with Helmi gradding a goal and Leon making up for his disappointment for the earlier miss to end the final 3rd 1-1

With the total aggregrate score at 5-3 in Team Gusto’s favour..they are favourites to win the tie butas they always say..dont write any team off in soccer..as we have seen Man Unt win in 1999 over Baeryn scoring in the last 5mins , Liverpool in 2005 Champions League Final scoring 3 goals within 6mins and the lastest from the Euro 2008..Turks winning the tie with 5 mins to spare against Czech Republic.New Players United has players such as Kevin, Melvin, Salehin, Leonie and newcomers Isa, Yangsheng to spring some surprises..

The 2nd leg will be held at Orchid Park Secondary 3-5pm..2 hours to be claimed the 1st ever Winners of the Schwarz Star Challenge Cup

On 14 and 21 June 2008, Saturday, SSFC will be hosting a 2-legged tournament at Orchid Park Secondary School.

The prize presentation ceremony will be held in conjunction with the SSFC family day on 21 June 2008. So bring your girlfriend, wife and kids along and create a family day atmosphere!

The drinks for the two days will be sponsored by McDonald’s. The management of SSFC will like to thank McDonald’s for their generousity in supporting Singapore’s Amateur Soccer Community.

Leonie, pundit from firsteleven.blogspot, recently caught up with the coach of Schwarz Star on the amazing 3-3 draw against Eagles FC at Bendemeer that Schwarz Star dominated, pulling the brakes on a 3-match winning streak.

Report:

It was a bright start for the Falcons as we were controlling the game, keeping most of the possesion and morale was high. Thava and Marvin kept the defense line well and opponent had minimal chance to test our keeper Wesley

Siva gave the Falcons an early lead when he netted an angled grounder precisely into the far post beyond the reach of the keeper.
However, the opponent were level towards the end of 1st half with a counter attack passes Satnam and beats Wesley in a one on one situation.

In the midst of 2nd half, Melvin headed the ball into the goal towards the left-hand post from a corner kick where the keeper had no time to react.
The Falcons were in full flow now, and a well-worked move found Yun with the space to shoot from the edge of the area – but his effort was just wide.
Opponents were forced to quickly regroup, or face being over-run.
Falcons continued to press forwards with multiple attacks keeping the keeper busy but fails to find the net..

The Falcons were handed another chance 10mins before the final whistle when the referee pointed to the spot following a handball by opponent’s defender.
Kevin got up to take the penalty himself, and made no mistake from 12 yards, beating the keeper with a low strike into the left corner.

The Falcons won the game 3-1, progressing to match 3 of the 6 match unbeaten challenge by coach Kenneth. Match 3 will be played on 1st of March at First Toa Payoh Secondary School. Stay tuned.
