Henderson Secondary School was the venue for the match against Northumberland Knights.

The match was kicked off by Yun, our stand-in referee as the match referee was on his way to the ground. Within minutes, Schwarz Star gave away a penalty and our keeper, Jing Xiang, was sent the wrong way as the score went 1-0 in favour of the opponents.

A referee substituition was made as the match referee arrived and the game resumed. Several opportunities were wasted by Leon after the penalty and Schwarz Star made good use of their numerical advantage in terms of squad size, having 23 players at their disposal.

It took a while, but the Schwarzians pulled one back through Sharil, who headed home from a corner to bring the game back to square one.

Chris was brought down by the opponent in the box and calmly slotted his penalty into the bottom left corner but it was the build-up to the foul which was worth mentioning.

A series of great passes among the Schwarzians started the play and the ball got to Jason, who came up with an exquisite touch to bring the ball away from the oncoming defender and into space. The ball was then passed towards Chris, who brought the ball down with a touch and ran down the flank and make a cut into the box.

The ball went through but not the man, as Chris was taken down which led to the resulting goal.

Schwarzians were leading 2-1 at half time and were not going to let the lead go without a fight.

A series of shots on Wesley’s goal, who came on at half time for Jing Xiang, were handled well by the goalkeeper. Waves of attacks were launched in return by Schwarz Star but sadly none of the shots were converted into goals.

A horrific challenge on Alfie halfway through the second half, saw him being carried off the pitch and Melvin went on to replace him.

As the game was nearly the end, the Schwarzians were under intense pressure as they were heavily attacked by the opponents but they were able to keep out the danger and hold on to their slender 1 goal lead.. The final whistle was blown by the referee and relief was seen on everyone’s face and Schwarz Star will have to continue winning their upcoming games, be it in the Equatorial Football League or in friendly matches.

Final Score:

Schwarz Star 2-1 Northumberland Knights (HT Score: 2-1)

Match Report – SSFC vs Maoist (10/01/09)

Its 2.45pm at Farrer Park Field, we see only a handful of players gearing up, Adrain and Reggie already doing some footwork on the pitch. Stand-in Manager Alfie was displeased. Near 3pm, more players start to stroll in. Minutes after, Referee Frank Biard blows his whistle and requesting both teams to be on the pitch. Alfie rushes the players to gear up on the double and to be line-up for inspection. As due to the late coming of players, Schwarz Star had to start the game without prematch briefing, warming up and stretching for the team. Alfie quickly announces the line up a minute before the kickoff.

The ball started rolling. Both teams were quite even, testing out each other players in the 1st 15 minutes. As the time clicks away, Schwarz Star was getting more focused on the game as players getting better touches and the attacks were coming. Shots and crosses flew across Maoist’s 18yard box but none tested the keeper. 30-35min; Yun dribbles the ball into the 18yards posing danger to Maoist but was soon denied as the defender infringes the rules by charging at Yun. Referee Frank came awarding a penalty. Kevin stepped up and gave a clinical finish to the top right hand corner. Schwarz Star ends the 1st half with a 1-0 lead.

In the 2nd half, Schwarz Star had the kickoff. We were still the better side till about 60mins a confusion happen in the penalty box and led to a low finish pass Nasriq. At about 80mins, Maoist strikes again with a low drive shot resulting a goal. With 10mins left, Schwarz Star unleashes all they got and try to push for an equalizer. Schwarz Star controling the final minutes with several conservative attacks and corners but all to no avail. Maoist ended Schwarz Star debut game in EFL assesment by winning 2-1.

Schwarz Star had a very fruitful 2008, we had been actively involved in friendly games and even organised our very own Invitational League. In total we had 16 games bringing the result of 5 wins, 5 draws and 6 loses. We would like to commentate Siva for his outstanding participation and performance by bringing  0.875 goals per game. Keep up the good work.

SSFC Top Scorers SSFC Top Match Participation
Siva 12   Siva 14
Yun 3   Kevin 14
Faisal 3   Leonie 13
Azam 2   Yun 12
Farhan 2   Taufiq 12

2009 looks promising as the club is strengthened by the return of Adrian and Fiashah tagging along with Reggie and Nasriq. With these quality players, SS can definitely make a name for ourselves in the amateur football scenes.

Schwarz Star FC v My Team FC

As the players selected for the EFL were gearing up for their encounter against Maoist, another group of players were taking part in a friendly match against My Team FC to gain match fitness.

It started off well and our keeper of the day, Jing Xiang, came up with a few saves to deny the opponents. However, the opponents broke the deadlock with a long range attempt from outside the box and found the bottom right corner of the goal.

Right before half time, a corner was taken by the opponents and one of their players leaped up to head the ball into goal to bring the first half to a close at 0-2 with Schwarz Star FC not even testing the goalkeeper at all.

The second half began with new faces brought on and the pressure was applied on the opponents. The opponents were bringing on waves after waves of attack but the defenders made vital clearances and the keeper pulled off heroic saves to deny them a goal.

At the other end, Schwarz Star finally had attempts on goal but only a glancing header was on target among the attempts.

The opponents further extended their lead with a volley from outside the box, which just managed to squeeze past the goalkeeper and into the bottom corner.

Eventually, the game came to an end and the Schwarzians lost 3-0 but lessons were learnt from the defeat and the players will be gunning for a victory in next week’s game.

Several big red plastic bags were brought by Leonie into Dunearn Secondary School’s field. Inside the seemingly common bags are the jerseys of Schwarz Star neatly packed into bags and waiting to be collected by the players of Schwarz Star.

Players eagerly came forward in search for their kits and before long, players have turned Dunearn Secondary School into a sea of red and yellow shirts.

Schwarz Star’s very own models!

Schwarz Star’s Team Photo!

And there’s no better time for The New Paper to come in to do interviews and take photos of the team! With all players looking brilliant in their away kit, photos of the team were taken and everyone certainly had a great time!

With the EFL days away, let’s take to the field and give it all against Maoist and get off to a great start.

Schwarz Star FC v Northstar FC

Schwarz Star FC turned up in numbers at Admiralty Secondary School  on 3 January 2009 at 5pm for the first friendly match in 2009. However, the Schwarzians were kept waiting as the key holder was late. Eventually the gate was opened and Schwarzians geared up to face their opponents.

After a handshake between the sides, the first third of the game started. Left-back Halim was the first to break the deadlock with a cool finish and Yun, captain of the match, added a second after finishing off a low cross from Kok Hui to bring the first third to the end at 2-0 to the Schwarzians.

The second-third started with the formation tweaked to a 442 from the usual 4141.  After being pinned back for periods during the second third, the third goal was netted when Azam tapped the ball in after the opposition’s goalkeeper failed to hold to Leon’s shot after it was fired straight at him. Siva was subbed on to replace Yun and was deployed as a centre back and he also took over the captaincy.

In the final third, a 433 formation was played and the objective given by Coach was to not concede. Schwarz Star broke down waves of attacks from Northstar FC and scored two goals, first with a delightful chip by Farhan over the onrushing goalkeeper and later, a volley from Siva aka Precious and was warmly greeted by a Kallang wave from the players by the sideline.

The game was eventually won 5-0 by Schwarz Star FC and the Schwarzians would be hoping to bring this form into the EFL matches to come.
