Azam’s late goal secures victory against FC Evolution

31.05.09

After a week break from the league game, Schwarz Star finally came up against FC Evo, who won 1-0 by a technical default in the previous game. With few players unable to play due to injuries, Coach Kenneth made a bold move by placing Razmy as a lone striker with the 4-1-4-1 formation.

At 3pm sharp, the game started with Evo FC only with 9 players. SS were able to keep up with their normal game of possession and creating tension for Evo FC.

At about 20 minutes, Razmy strikes with a lob after a quickpass from Reggie, resulting in a goal. That fired up the team. Razmy managed to put the Falcons in an advantage by scoring the 2nd goal, again lobbing over Evo’s GK with a goalkick from Yun.

Just before the half time, Evo FC, now with 11 players, however managed to narrow the scoreboard after scoring from a free kick.

The 2nd half started with Evo FC playing more possession. On the other end, SS was having a hard time composing and getting back on track. This gave a chance for Evo FC to whack the ball into the net, leveling the score line.

With few minutes left, SS secured a free kick when one of Evo’s player did a nasty tackle on Farhan, resulting him with a Red card. The third goal was netted when Azam tapped the ball in after opposition’s goalkeeper failed to hold on to Kelvin shot after it was fired straight at him.

The game was eventually won 3-2 by Schwarz Star FC and players will be aiming for victory in the few games to come.

Final Score:

Schwarz Star 3 – 2 FC Evo

Scorers:

Razmy (2), Azam

Match Report – Schwarz Star vs Newton Heath

27.05.09

> > >Posted by

Weather: Overcast

Location: Marsiling Secondary School

Opponent: Newton Heath

The match got off to a start with Schwarz Star kicking off. Schwarz Star passed the ball confidently for almost 5 minutes before losing possession. A quick ball from SS midfield found Fiee momentarily free. With a quick glance, Fiee passed the ball back to the middle. Confidence ooze from the boys in golden yellow just by looking at the way the ball was passed.

The opponents really except with 2 or 3 forays down the flanks cleverly intercepted by our full backs. Tackles flew from all directions. Cards were aplenty. 15 minutes passed and SS won a freekick at the far side halfway to the opponent’s goal. With a deft chip, Indian Thava, sent the ball to the opponent’s near post. With the keeper rooted, no SS player was there to capitalize on the glorious opportunity. Razmy received a yellow card for a foul which even the spectators did not approve. The game came and went with Razmy trying from distance only to see the ball sail over the cross bar.

A through ball found Kevin running into space, offside, says the Referee, “Oh rubbish” claim SS players. With a harmless looking pass to the right flank, the opponents whipped in a cross early. Too close to the goal, but Keeper, Yun, could only push it with his fingers towards his far post. A lurking opponent grabbed the opportunity with both hands by guiding the ball into SS net.

Restart after 25 minutes. SS continue to play their usual possession game. You will never know that SS was trailing by a goal. A quick 1 – 2 between and Kevin put Azam into space on the right flank. A beautiful cross headed away by the opponent. The game was all about SS passing and possession. A quick release by Razmy in the middle and Siva is on his way to the opponent’s goal. But wait, a sliding tackle, the ball was rolling out to the byeline. What’s the decision? Referee pointed to the spot. Penalty!! Kudos to Siva who did not resort to simulation. He was fouled just inside the penalty box. Razmy placed the ball on the spot. Total silence from both sets of supporters. Goal!!! Game on.

The ball came and went with both teams not able to produce the defence splitting pass or the dangerous crosses. Half-time.

The match restarted with Newton Heath kicking off the second half. Again Newton Heath hardly threaten an already seasoned SS defence and coupled with the presence of SS “Russian Tank”, Norman, SS managed to keep the opponents at bay. Norman managed to dispossessed the opponent and passed to a waiting Remi. Remi found Fiee idling in a corner. With a long searching ball, Fiee found Razmy at the flank. With searing speed, Razmy almost tore the artificial turf into shreds cutting left, cutting right and beating 2 opponents. A low driven cross, Siva was on hand to guide the ball into the net. Goal!!!

With barely 20 minutes to play, SS was still passing and possessing the ball. Looking to pass the ball into space and attempting to threaten the opponent’s goal. Suddenly, the opponents become very lively. Being a goal down, the opponents rallied by launching waves of attacks down their left flank. Amir was on hand to contain many a runs down the near flank. A brilliant sliding tackle from our ever reliable Taufiq cut out a potentially dangerous through ball, resulting in a corner to the opponent. The taker floated a beautiful ball into the 18 yard box. A free header! Off the crossbar and the post. A goal kick to SS. Dangerous defending by SS cursed the Coach by the sideline

Both sides continue to threaten with runs down the flanks and middle of the park. SS was holding out nervously for the last 15 minutes. The Coach was pacing up and down the touchline. Wondering what’s on his mind. Is he going to go all out to get another goal or is he going to close shop and wait for the fat lady to sing? Your guess is as good as mine.

Newton Heath were reduced to taking long shots at goal from distance, which stand-in keeper, credit to Yun managed to hold on. With the clock running down, the match petered out. Final score: Schwarz Star 2 Newton Heath 1.

Interview with Schwarz Star’s Number 10(Fii)

20.05.09

> > >Posted by

Fii..Schwarz Star’s very own number 10..blessed with the grace to control the ball at his feet and delivering beautiful crosses..there was a time when school/work committments restricted Fii from playing and SSFC thought she will lose one of the players..fast forward 1 year on..Fii is back doing he does best..playing the beautiful game with SSFC..

1) Hi Fii…how have u been so far? Well you are wearing the most famous jersey number 10..many great players have won it..John Barnes, Maradona…how do you feel wearing the SSFC number 10?

Hi Brandon. Firstly it’s a great honour to have this interview with you and i thank you for giving me this chance. Well, i have been wearing number 10 since secondary school. When i first started playing for SSFC, i was given the number 13 instead. After which, we have a new set of jersey. Coach then gave me the number 10. It’s not just a honour given to me. It’s more to responsibility, commitment & dedication the team and i thank the Coach for giving me the trust.

2) Roll back the past 2 years plus..there was a period when you were unable to join SSFC..what was the reason that made your decision to join back the Falcons?

Back then, i was pretty much busy with school and other commitment. However, at a point of time, I missed soccer and craving for it. Yes, it does     sound like a pregnant lady craving for a type of food. Just by looking at how SSFC is growing each day, i made a decision to join back the falcons.

3) You are considered one of the “oldies” in the team..what do you think of SSFC progression in comparison from the time you left and when you joined back?

Before we left, SSFC was kind of disorganised. Without a proper coach, we don’t have the basic mindset. Every players have their own individual style of play. However, after i came back and was introduced to coach, i can see the brand new SSFC. We are much more organize and know what to do in every game or training for instance playing the right possession football rather then “void deck” soccer. We have well structure training programs, on or off the field to provide us not only the fundamentals but also the mentality.

In addition, i’m glad to bond with my team mates. They are just not my team mates, but close friends that i can just share anything in the world with them.

4) You seem to be able to switch postions at ease from left back to left wing…which is your preferred postion and why so?

It’s kind of tiring to switch from left back to left wing every now and then. I need to adapt to the different kind of play as quick as i could. For instance, i would be in a defensive mode when i’m playing the left back and vice versa. However, given the chance, i would prefer to play as a left winger as i am much confident and comfortable there.

Again, coach always want us to play at our best position and i always believe that wherever position that he put me at is the best for me.

5) What do you aim to achieve in your time here with the Falcons and where do you see SSFC 5 years from now?

In SSFC, players are not only taught on how to play soccer but we also taught on what is soccer. I hope to be able to have the knowledge of what soccer is all about. Not only practically but theory wise. In 5 years time, i do hope for SSFC to excel and be one of the top team in the amatuer level. I do also hope by that time, we would already start our way up to the islandwide league, to the next level.

6) A side topic..What’s you motto that best represents you?

I would say ‘One for all & all for one” I’m able to work best in a team rather then being alone. That’s how soccer should be.

Schwarz Star FC v FC Dong

17.05.09

> > >Posted by

After securing a 1-1 draw against Pinoy FC, the feeder team was looking forward towards the match against FC Dong at Tanglin Secondary School.

Schwarz Star did not have the best of start as they were pinned in their own half for the first few minutes, but soon took some pressure off them through striker Leon. After Mike was sent on a run down the left flank, Leon run ahead of Mike and called for the ball. Mike delicately chipped the ball over his defender into the path of Leon, who flicked the ball forward. Seeing the goalkeeper off his line, Leon unleashed a volley, metres ahead of the halfway line, and it flew straight over the helpless keeper and into the back of the net. Leon has found the net in his second consecutive matches after ending his goal drought two weeks ago.

With the goal, Schwarz Star found confidence to venture forward and many more chances came along. Yen, doing an impressive job on the right flank, constantly troubled the opponent with his tireless runs. A clear opportunity fell for Leon when advantage was played after a ruthless challenge on Isa, but Leon could only managed a poke on the ball and it rolled into the keeper’s arms.

Endless chances fell for Melvin and Yen, but no end result was produced. On the other side, Whye Ming kept the Schwarzians in the lead with a series of stunning saves, included a one-hand save to push the ball away from goal. However, it was insufficient as FC Dong got a goal on the stroke of half-time, sending the match into half-time at 1-1.

The second half started and it was anybody’s game to win. FC Dong applied pressure to the Schwarzians and it paid off. They got two goals to turn the match in their favour, and Yen was unable to finish off a golden opportunity at the other end to cut short their lead. Whye Ming also stopped a point-blank effort from the opponent but it was too little. Two others goals were conceded minutes between each other, notably the fourth goal where the opponent dribbled pass 3 players in the box and smashed the ball past Whye Ming from a tight angle into the net.

The match ended 5-1 in FC Dong’s favour, and the Schwarzians would reflect on the match and improve on their brilliant first half display while avoiding a repeat of their second half display in their next match.

The fate of whether SSFC will participate in the EFL Division 2 in Late August will be known within the next 2 weeks time..there have been closed door meetings between Team Manager Brandon and EFL Chief Organiser Eugene in recent weeks.

This coming saturday on the 16/5/09..Schwarz Star FC will be engaged in 2 games..The league team taking on Newton Heath whom they drew 0-0 and the players in the squad are eager to pursue their climb up the AP table.

The other game features the feeder team taking on a more illustrious and hard-working Korean Team: Dong FC whom the SSFC scouts have noted that the Koreans will be the strongest opponent the feeder has faced..The odds will be stacked against the feeder team but they will be aiming to go against the odds to claim their first win after their draw with Pinoy FC 2 weeks back.

The Executive Committee will be planning a team chalet for the squad to bond and have fun , this chalet will likely be planned in July but these are still are in early stages of discussion..

Interview with Remi..the latest signing for SSFC

09.05.09

> > >Posted by
Hi Remi. Firstly, welcome to Schwarz Star FC.
a) From the latest recruitment, you were recruited by Team Manager Brandon into Schwarz Star FC. Having played for a few other amateur soccer teams, what made you consider joining Schwarz Star F.C?

Having joined the club for about 2 months plus now, how are you settling in?

From the past teams that i joined, whether is it school team, or other amateur teams that i had played for, I learnt a lot from the ways of play and experienced playing at different positions which makes me ponder and learn what should be done or what shouldn’t be done in that position. Joining Schwarz Star is after serious thoughts of the team’s dream and coach experience plus the players’ fighting spirit which i feel during the 1st training.

Am settling in the club but still learning how each and every player’s playing styles are.. Each character’s are different and styles of playing are different as well. That is the main thing that i am still focusing on whether is it a first team player or a feeder team player.

b) What is it like playing for Schwarz Star FC’s feeder team so far?
Playing in the feeder team so far is slightly concern for me as i feel that some are just too quiet in the game. Voicing out to players is important as i feel that if you do not treat ur team mates as ur FRIENDS in combat, is like 1 v 11 instead. From training game that the 1st team players are playing, they shouted for each others. That is the first skill that makes a team strong.
c)What do you think can be done to improve the feeder team?
Improving for feeder team like communication on field, Defenders play together more often in order to string passes, Using passing to communicate, therefore no stray passes. Pass to feet means players near you, pass to left side of the receiver means right side of the receiver has a man on him and vice versa.
d) What do you hope to achieve during your time at the club, however long it may be?
Achieving for S.S is my main priority. I won’t put my personal glory for the seek of winning any games. As long as end results are win. I am happy that i know whether if i do play or i am at the bench, WIN is my priority.

e) Looking forward, do you think the Schwarz Star FC will be capable of challenging for honours in future seasons?
S.S is able to challenge for honours as long as the players are serious, whole team are serious and enjoy the game with passion. Simple saying is Glory = play with passion.

Schwarz Star FC recorded a 5-4 win in a thrilling encounter against Hibernians United.

The Schwarzians have already recorded a close 3-2 win in the previous fixture and this match looked to remain that way.

The Schwarzians got off to a bad start when they went a goal down, but were soon level through Razmy. The score remained 1-1 all the way till half time.

The second half was nothing like the first half. Schwarz Star took the lead with an effort from Farhan finding the back of the net. The match was level again when Hibernians United scored.

Schwarz Star then took a 3 goal lead with goals from Razmy, his second of the game, Norman and Azam.

With the score at 5-2, the Schwarzians looked towards a comfortable win but the referee’s decision to assign 10 minutes of extra time gave Hibernians United every chance to make a comeback. They responded with 2 goals during the 10 minutes of extra time and Schwarz Star were determined to protect their hard-earned lead.

The final whistle went off to the relief of Schwarz Star’s players and the game ended 5-4 after what was an thrilling match.

The team are now looking towards their next game against Questra Vipers and would hope to secure another 3 points.
