Falcons crashed to heavy defeat

The Falcons crashed to a 2-5 defeat against AJPL in a match many would have expected them to win. The previous time these two teams met, SSFC cruised to a 4-1 victory so this defeat will definitely come as a shock to the team.

Things got off to a bad start when the Falcons conceded a soft goal within the first 20 minutes of play. It got from bad to worse when two more unfortunate goals were conceded, the first, an own goal by Leonie and the second, off a free kick when the SSFC’s defence went to sleep. The Falcons went into the break 3 goals down.

In the 2nd half, AJPL went on to score 2 more goals after the kick-off. With a heavy 5 goals deficit to overturn, the Falcons threw caution to the wind and started having more possession and were creating the better chances. They were duly rewarded when Jason pounced on a loose ball after a corner kick taken by Andy created havoc in the AJPL six yard box. With the clock running down, the Falcons had numerous chances to score more goals when Yen, Kok Hui & Jason missed golden chances to bring the deficit down. There was time though for one more goal and it was admittedly the goal of the match. Kevin, playing as a centre back at this point of the match, picked up the ball in the centre circle and floated a perfect ball across the field for the onrushing Leslie who took down the ball fluidly, turning a defender before smashing the ball past the goalkeeper. The 2 goals were mere consolation though as AJPL ran out victors.

SSFC will play Zespol FC in their next D2D fixture this coming 7th of August.

Interview with Roy

1) Hi Roy, how are things with you? Being nominated the Captain for the Competitive Team in the D2D League, how’s the feeling like and what’s your personal expectations for the D2D Season?

Hey guys, I would say things are cool and there are alot more football for me right now. Well it is definitely a privilege and a challenge to be the captain of the team. A famous superhero once said, “with great power comes great responsibility.” It is not a particularly easy role but I am trying and enjoying myself as much as possible with the team. Seeing the team gel, enjoying football and gaining respectable results would be a good start for us. A top 3 placing will certainly put icing to the cake.

2) What’s your view in which would be strongest as well as weakest link within the Competitive Team?

In fact, I felt that we could have at least gained a point from our first match. In my opinion, our strength lies in the depth of our team as well as our willingly to run our hearts out for the team. Also, we have a coach whom is giving us guidance from the sidelines at times and making techniques changes when needed. However we could do alot better in defending as a team and try not to leak in soft goals. After all, a clean sheet in any game will means that we gain at least a point in any case.

3) Your scored a screamer from a direct free kick in the lastest game against Swee Swee 1 FC..How did it feel to score your 1st goal for Schwarz Star FC? what’s your goal target that you aim to achieve for the season?

It always feels good to score and I was thrilled that the ball glided to where I wanted. Probably one of the best goal I ever scored. I don’t have a goal target that I want to achieve at the moment but I will be looking at contributing whenever I can.

4) You were brought in by Maverick to join Schwarz Star FC..what was the reason behind to join SSFC though you are still part of Rebels United.. How was the transition like from a rival team in the EFL Assessment League to another team?

Interesting. The way I see it, one is like a wife and the other like a mistress. Rebels has a nostalgic feeling for me as many of the players goes a long way back with me while SSFC is something very new, passionate and challenging for me. Besides, the training and coaching with SSFC is an eye-opener for myself but it was made easier with the team being welcoming towards new players. I was itchy for some football during Rebels’ off season so I decided to train with SSFC after hearing great stuffs about the club from Maverick and the rest you could say is history.

5) On a more serious note..where do you see SSFC from now till say…year 2015..What do you aim to achieve in your time here with the Falcons? NFL or at least one of higher rungs of a professionally run league like Espzen.

With the team’s commitment and passion for the game and SSFC’s management, it will be a waste not to move forward. Hopefully both league and competitive team can come together, start challenging for honors and be counted among the big boys. Sponsors and more football talents will be good as well. A competition overseas soon, food for thought? On a personal note, I would like to enjoy the game I love and hopefully able to grow with the club as we reach for new heights. Many thanks!

Falcons Denied

15.07.10

> > >Posted by

It was heartbreak all around as the Falcons were denied victory and precious 3 points when a legitimate goal was disallowed by the referee. The reason for the decision have yet to be known.

The Falcons controlled the game for the majority of the match with penetrative plays down the flanks by Andy, Leslie & Salehin providing the Star CF’s defence with much to deal with. Star CF managed to repel much of the Falcons attacks somehow. The Falcons, though, thought they got their breakthrough when a move started by Thava was finished by a header from Melvin after an exquisite cross from the right by Leslie. However, much to the Falcons’ dismay, the goal was disallowed by the referee. The next best chance to score came in the second half, from a free kick on the edge of the Star CF’s box after Yen was bundled over by Star CF’s defender. Kevin shot narrowly wide from the resulting free kick after a tap pass by Andy.

The Falcons will rightfully feel aggrieved at missing out on maximum points after outplaying the opponent for a majority of the match. They will have to look forward to this weekend’s match and hope the result comes right.

Tips from Coach Kenneth

“Gaining strength in your legs, and experience no more cramps or muscle fatigue.”

A lot of social footballers do get cramps and muscle fatigue. Some have the misconception that it is about stretching. Good warm up and stretching does help, however, it is not only about that or being fit and strong. Fit professionals who go through proper fitness and stretching do get cramps too. Most of the time, proper food and fluid intake can help prevent them from occurring. To prevent cramps and muscle fatigue, do the following:-

1) Lack of sodium (common salt).
I am not asking you to take spoonfuls of salt, since too much is unhealthy too. Just add a spoon of salt into your sports drink before and after sports such as your 100 Plus or Gatorade or whatever sport drinks you consume. Add salt to your taste and in moderation.

2) Potassium
Where do we get potassium? BANANAS.
Bananas, if you are not allergic or adverse to bananas, have plenty of bananas.

By having a sustainable diet and liquid intake, your performance on the field is enhanced, leading to a more enjoyable game.

POTQ April – June 2010: Razmy

08.07.10

> > >Posted by

In a season of highs and lows, this “Razzler and Dazzler” showed his excellent ability, flair and flamboyance in the last quarter of the season. Razmy had slowly regained his confidence the past few months and contributed admirably to the team, culminating in his excellent performance in the last match of the season against J Heat.

In the final match against J-Heat, Razmy played in a forward role and was a constant threat to the opponent’s goal. His skillful approach play was rewarded with 2 sublime goals.

The first was a well taken ball from the right-side, creating enough space by cutting into the box, passed a couple of defenders with good touches and with a good mind to place the ball out of reach of the goalkeeper with his cultured left.

If the first was inventive playing, Razmy’s second goal, I would place it with, “one of the best goals” I have witnessed first hand. Infact I am certain everyone on the field and in the stands that afternoon would have placed that goal right up there with the best they have seen.

From a direct punt from GK Alfian into the opponents halve, Razmy made the run away from his marker, plucked the ball out of the sky with a first touch so delicate that he set himself up without breaking stride for a delicious lob over the on-rushing GK. (Remember Dennis Bergkamp against Argentina.)

Judging from the massive pile-up of bodies for the goal-celebration (even the opponents and referee did not begrudge the team their moment of glory), I am sure he will savor this team not only for the goals he scores, but also the knowledge that he has grown into a vital fulcrum for Schwarz Star.

This is Razmy’s second POTQ acknowledgement.
